Richard Soan Roofing Services are delighted to announce that our very own Lee Payne has been awarded the Building Craft Award at the Sussex Heritage Trust Awards for work to Southover Old House, Lewes. The award is given for an example of high-quality work by a craftsperson or young apprentice using traditional skills or crafts. The Award sponsored by Pilbeam Construction, is given to the person rather than the project.
This is a terrific achievement for Lee and the Company, who were up against very stiff opposition with amazing craftsmen & women in the construction industry. The judges said: "A skilful restoration of a complex roof structure following a major fire involving many interconnecting roof slopes and other flat surfaces. Exceptional work."
More about the award: Southover Old House is a large, historic Grade II listed house which had a serious fire in 2019. The house is believed to have early origins but was rebuilt in the late 18th century, with mathematical tiles added to the front in mid-19th century. The existing salvaged materials were to be reused and made up with matching reclaimed slates and tiles on the roof.
