The NFRC Competent Person Scheme provides certification to the roofing industry as a Competent Person scheme operator, accredited by UKAS and recognised by the Building Safety Regulator for the replacement of roof coverings on all roof types.

The NFRC Competent Person Scheme is the only roofing specific scheme that allows roofers in England and Wales to self-certify their roof refurbishment work. 
 
The scheme allows customers to avoid cowboy builders by hiring a contractor who has passed rigorous inspection and has demonstrated their competency as a skilled roofing professional.

When 50% or more of the roof is being replaced, it is a legal requirement to notify the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) and comply with the relevant Building Regulations. By following the Competent Roofer scheme rules, NFRC CPS registered contractors are authorised to self-certify that their roof refurbishment work complies with the Building Regulations. The Registered Contractor notifies CompetentRoofer when the work is taking place and once the work has been completed, NFRC CPS notifies the relevant LABC.

 

Not only does the NFRC Competent Person Scheme recognise the skills and competencies of professional roofing contractors but the scheme alleviates some of the hassle and cost associated with arranging inspection through Local Authority Building Control.
