FLAT ROOFS
A flat roof is a roof which is almost level in contrast to the many types of sloped roofs. The slope of a roof is properly known as its pitch and flat roofs have up to approximately 10° pitch.

There are several types of coverings that can be used on flat roofs.
Bituminous Membranes - Built Up Felt
Is a system of bitumen impregnated material ‘felt’ laid in 2 or 3 layers directly on top of either decking or insulation depending on project requirements. Usually the layers are welded together by applying heat.
Single Ply Membranes
Single Ply is also known as Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) membrane roofing. This is flexible sheets of compounded synthetic materials that are manufactured in a factory to strict quality control requirements. Single ply roof systems provide strength, flexibility, and long-lasting durability. This is fixed to the roof in a similar way to the felt roofing. All our work is strictly undertaken in accordance with the recommendations of The Single Ply Roofing Association
Mastic Asphalt
Asphalt is a mixture of aggregates, binder and filler, laid ‘wet’ and spread out over the area of the roof, sometimes gravel is put on top of it while it is still wet, this process helps to protect the asphalt from wear and keeping the sun from heating it up to a liquid form. All Mastic Asphalt is strictly in accordance with the recommendations of The Mastic Asphalt Council.
Liquid Coatings
Liquid Roofing involves the application of a cold liquid roof coating. No open flames or other heat sources are needed and the glassfibre reinforced systems provide seamless waterproofing around roof protrusions and details. Liquid applied membranes are also naturally resistant to moss and lichen.
SLATING / TILING
In building construction, roof pitch is a numerical measure of the steepness of a roof. Roofs may be functionally flat or "pitched". Most people when they are asked to draw or think of a house they draw or imagine one with a pitched roof. A pitched roof is usually covered with slates or tiles. Some houses also have tiling on the outside walls – this is called vertical tiling.

HERITAGE ROOFING
Heritage roofing is defined as roof covering works carried out with traditional materials and workmanship to buildings which have an historic value. This is as opposed to modern materials and workmanship used with current building practices. We have employees specifically trained within this area and experienced.
LEADWORK
Lead is usually used to provide a waterproof join between different areas of building construction. Lead can itself be used as a covering to flat roofs but is usually only done in small areas such as dormer or bay windows.
All leadwork is strictly undertaken in accordance with the recommendations of The Lead Development Association.
SOLAR/PV
All of our Solar PV work is undertaken strictly in accordance with The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and The Renewable Energy Consumer Scheme (RECC) with both the tilers and the electricians working closely together to ensure the system is set-up in the correct way.

GREEN ROOFS
Green Roofs can vary from intensive roof gardens or extensive low maintenance planting such as sedum and indigenous herbs, grasses & wild flowers. A gravel border is usually stated in the design as an added fire protection. Sedum is emerging as a favourite as it is easily transported and requires little maintenance as it is a succulent plant which remains close to the ground throughout its growth, has mild roots which don't damage the waterproofing membrane and changes colour in the seasons in greens, browns and purples to give a pleasing effect to the eye. Green roofs are laid as per the projects design requirements.
